John
Albrecht joined the staff of First Congregational United Church of
Christ, Appleton, as the Director for Music Ministries in early August
2007, having served as Director of Music at Worthington Presbyterian
Church (Worthington, Ohio) for the preceding eight years. John holds
degrees from Northwestern University (B.M.E.) and the University of
Iowa (M.A. in Choral Conducting). He has taught senior high school
vocal music in Iowa and Illinois, and worked extensively with private
children’s choruses, including serving as the Associate Conductor of
the Glen Ellyn (Illinois) Children’s Chorus for five years. He also
served as Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church of
Glen Ellyn for ten years. John’s responsibilities here at First
Congregational include developing the total music and fine arts
program of the church, working in conjunction with the clergy,
organist, program staff, and volunteer leadership. His first year here
included starting a children's choir and a middle school handbell
ensemble, directing a children's musical, implementing a new audition
process for the Music Scholars program, and hosting a workshop with
the Northern Illinois University Chamber Choir. He most recently has
been asked to serve as the Repertoire and Standards Chair for Music in
Worship, the North Central Division of the American Choral Directors
Association. In addition, he joins the Appleton Boychoir staff this
fall as the Junior Choir Conductor.
John and his
wife, Kristy (a German teacher), have one son, Ethan, who will be
entering eighth grade this fall.
